My First Blog Ever!

This is my first blog ever. So, Hello there!

Life goes on and evolves, just as MCDC has!  As many of you know, we have moved our venue from the YMCA to the Carmel Youth Center, in Carmel.  A wonderful wood floor with bounce, excellent acoustics, a lounge that you can sleep in to recharge that tired body, and of course, the million dollar view of Carmel, Point Lobos, cypress trees and the ocean! These are just some of the reasons why we moved.

Even our sound guy, Bruce, is happy with the set up there!  And, trust me, that is a good thing.  If there is one thing I have learned: keep your sound person happy!  They work hard at bringing forth the right sound and volume for our dancers.  A big THANK YOU to Bruce Allen for all of his dedicated hard work at making the bands and callers sound just right.

Next: SPRING FLING (SF17):  What a grand party it has always been, and this last April 8 is no exception.  Dynamix, Crabapples and Warren Blier brought forth a 6-hour dance party that rocked Carmel!  Exceptional dancers turned out for our celebration of spring. Trust me, there was no tiptoeing thru the tulips that Saturday!

Our volunteers put forth a huge effort for SF17.  Karen Shaffer was always there, working on the food tables. They were constantly plied with gluten-free healthy choices, to the decedant chocolate, and fabulous cupcakes!  Her dedication has left me in awe of her!

Thank you to our Sponsors, who year after year have given MCDC unwavering support.  Our raffle had over 20 items. 2, $50 gift certificates, Mark Sanford; Monterey Bay Aquarium (Sharon Coggin); American Burger; First Awakenings (Craig Bell), Sages Salon (Dana); Bowen Lee, art classes; Elizabeth Todd music lessons; jewelry from Mr. Z's Jewelers; LDC Jewelers of Salinas (Doug Chapin); art by Bowen Lee, Michael Duffy, a great photo on canvas by Seltzer.

Along with year-long meetings and volunteers, contracting the bands years in advance, going over costs, and planning food, is just part of what it has taken to put on a special event for you, our contra dancing community of friends.

Thank you for sharing your lives with me at our MCDC dances!  Stay tuned for more.........
