     Mark your calendars now!

MCDC holds contra dances most first and third Saturdays at the Monterey YMCA (unless otherwise noted above). Come alone or bring a friend - beginners are always welcome. If you'd like to support MCDC, please consider becoming a Member.

Dances begin at 7:30 pm, with a highly recommended newcomers' orientation
20 minutes before the dance begins. Admission for regular dances is $8 for members, $10 for non-members and $5 for full-time students. Check out our Current Schedule for details and dates.

Not sure what Contra Dance is? See videos and learn more by checking out our About Contra Dance page.  If you're feeling nervous about learning Contra Dance, we even have links to beginning dancers' training videos on YouTube - they are a wonderful help, though nothing replaces dancing as a way for your body to learn.

Please be aware that some of our dancers are sensitive to fragrances.

Microtonic Harmonic, Monterey's hottest bluegrass band, will be playing for MCDC's contra dance on Saturday, December 17.

The group, which on Saturday night will include Dave Holodiloff, Peter Mellinger, John Klein, and Gene Mason, all about one thing: playin’ fun, fee-l good music for all ages to enjoy. Though firmly rooted in traditional bluegrass, the quartet of string bass, mandolin, banjo, and guitar is not afraid to venture out into various musical styles including Gypsy-Jazz, Funk, Folk, Celtic, and original Alternative-Acoustic creations.

Calling with Microtonic Harmonic is the lovely and talented Jean Gorrindo from San Luis Obispo, CA. One of the rising stars of the California Caller Collective, Jean's dances are fabulously flirty and fun, and the spirit of joy she brings to the dance is positively perspicuous!

Woo hoo! Big Words to describe the Big Fun we're planning for Saturday!

We hope you'll join us.
